New England Raisin Bread
This is a very good raisin bread from Mom.
1/2 cup warm water
2 pkg. yeast
1-1/2 cups lukewarm milk
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups raisins
sugar
1 Tbsp. salt
3 eggs
1/4 cup soft butter
7-1/4 to 71/2 cups flour
melted butter
Add yeast to warm water, stirring to dissolve. Stir in milk, sugar, salt, eggs, butter, raisins and half of the flour. Mix with a spoon until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to handle easily; mix with hand. Turn onto lightly floured board; knead; let rise; and shape into 3 loaves. Brush loaves with melted butter, then sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 425 degrees for 25 to 30
minutes until a rich brown.
