Soft Sugar Cookies

In this recipe from Ma Costello, the dough is too soft to roll out, so Mom makes drop cookies instead.

2  cups sugar
4  cups flour
1  cup shortening
1  tsp. baking soda
3  eggs
2  tsp. baking powder
1  cup sour milk
1 tsp. salt
nutmeg to taste

Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs. Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with sour milk. Mix thoroughly. It will be a soft dough. Drop by spoon onto cookie sheets. Bake at 425 for 10 to 12 minutes.
