Perfect Sugar Cookies

This recipe from Michelle's friend Ann Totorica, is great for Christmas cookies.


1/2  cup butter
11/2  tsp. vanilla
1/2  cup shortening
1/2  tsp. baking soda
1/2  cup sugar
1/2  tsp. cream of tartar
1/2  cup powdered sugar
1/2  tsp. salt
2-1/4   cup flour
1   egg


Cream butter, shortening, sugar and powdered sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Refrigerate 30 to 60 minutes. Roll out 1/8" thick on floured board. Cut out cookies. Bake at 375 degrees for about 8 minutes.
