Foolproof Chocolate Fudge

Michelle likes this fudge recipe because it's ... um ... it's "foolproof"


3   6 oz. pkgs. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1-1/2  tsp. vanilla
1/2  cup chopped nuts, optional
1  14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
dash salt


In heavy saucepan, over low heat, melt chips with milk. Remove from heat; stir in remaining ingredients. Spread evenly into wax paper-lined 8-inch square pan. Chill 2 to 3 hours or until firm. Turn fudge onto cutting board; peel off paper and cut into squares. Store loosely covered at room temperature. For White Confetti Fudge: In heavy saucepan, melt 1 1/2 lbs. white chocolate with sweetened condensed milk; remove from heat. Stir in 1/8 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla and 1 cup chopped candied cherries. Proceed as directed.
