Bon Bon Cookies
Michelle remembers baking these for Christmas, and what fun it was to hide goodies in the dough!
1/2 cup soft butter
3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar
1-1/2 cups sifted flour
1 Tbsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
food coloring, if desired
ICING:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 Tbsp. cream
1 tsp. vanilla
food coloring, if desired
FILLINGS:
candied or maraschino cherries
gumdrops
chocolate chips or m&m's
coconut
Mix together butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and food coloring. With hand, mix in flour and salt. If dough is dry, add 1-2 Tbsp. cream. For chocolate dough add 1 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted. Wrap level Tbsp. dough around filling. Place 1" apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes, until set but not brown. Mix together icing ingredients (for chocolate icing add 1 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted and use 1/4 cup cream). Dip tops of warm cookies in Icing. Decorate with nuts, coconut, chocolate chips, etc.
