Ann's Oatmeal Cookies

These chewy cookies from Michelle's school friend were a family favorite.


1  cup shortening
1  cup sugar
1  cup brown sugar
2  eggs
2  cups flour
1/2  tsp. salt
1  tsp. soda
1/2  tsp. baking powder
1  tsp. vanilla
2  cups oatmeal
2  cups rice krispies
1  cup coconut
1  cup chocolate chips
1  cup walnuts


Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift together flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Add to shortening mixture. Add vanilla, oatmeal rice krispies, coconut, chocolate chips and walnuts. Roll into balls and flatten. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. They will not look done when you take them out. Note: This dough does not keep well as the rice krispies get stale. It is best to bake right away.
