Cheese and Bacon in a Bread Boat

This delicious dip from Michelle gets rave reviews


1  lb. bacon, diced 8 oz.
Cream cheese
1/2  cup green onions, thinly sliced
1-1/2 lb. round loaf bread
1  cup sour cream


Fry bacon over medium heat until crisp. Reserve fat. Cut down 1 inch from sides of bread making 1/2 inch shell. Cut bread chunk into 1 1/2x2x1/2 inch thick rectangles. Brush inside shell with 3 tablespoons bacon fat. Place shell and bread pieces in a single layer on 2 - 10x15 inch pans. Bake 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Meanwhile mix cream cheese and sour cream. Stir in green onions and fried bacon. Pour cheese mixture into prepared bread shell. Bake until cheese is hot, about 15-20 minutes. Makes 10-12 appetizer servings.
